Boil the water for a few minutes, let it cool and run it through a Britta filter pitcher (almost unnecessary but I do it anyways). Tastes great, costs not much and no worries about BPA etc.

Oh and I use a cheap ass Mr. Coffee machine and Trader Joe's Classic Blend. Works for me.

As hard to believe as it sounds, all you need to make decent coffee is a pack of filter papers, some nice ground up coffee and one of these :-

Yes, a plastic cup with a hole to let the coffee drip through.

Makes coffee just as good as any perculator and 1000x easier to clean.

Re: Help w/ coffee

Mocker bought me a Keurig a couple of weeks ago. I love this coffee maker. There are now 2 Mr. Coffees and a French press in the cabinet above the fridge (the one everyone stores things they think they might have use for, but never use again cabinet) ... I love how quickly it makes a cup of coffee! Now I just need to find a good vendor to buy the K-cups. I bought a box of the Nantucket blend and I liked it, but I want to find Newman's Own Organics Nells Breakfast blend k-cups. I miss that coffee. I'm going to try Bed, Bath and Beyond tonight.

Re: Help w/ coffee

Costco had two $50 gift certificates for Keurig.com packaged for around 80 dollars, when last I checked.

Also, office supply stores like Office Depot sell boxes of 24 for around 10.99 or 9.99 for 18 and have a good selection.

Amazon (though many are 3rd party sellers so caveat emptor). That Costco deal sounds pretty sweet. Keurig.com definitely has the largest selection and they have some sort of discount/reward program as well. And don't forget you can get that little filter and use any coffee you want.

While I was at the Keurig site I saw that they now have special travel mug size k-cups. So now Shadow Seer has no more excuses to become one of the cool people.

Re: Help w/ coffee

I like to grind my own beans, my parents have one of those Keurig things, I don't like the taste much, although I do have a Nespresso machine for espresso/cappuccino, which is the same theme, coffee in a pod.

I had some espresso from a Nespresso in a hotel room in Amsterdam and I was hooked.

Re: Help w/ coffee

Since I can't find Nell's Breakfast Blend in K-cup:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...SIN=B000DLB2FI

Also read that you can make your own:

http://www.coffeedetective.com/how-t...ffee-cups.html

We do the same thing. Take off the foil top. Clean out the pod making sure you don't damage the paper filter. Then fill with your own coffee. Cover top with a small piece of aluminium foil. And you have a new K-Cup.

The machine makes a hole in the top and bottom of the K-Cup. So as the other poster said, make sure you put it in so the hole in the bottom lines up so you don't end up with a second hole and you can re-use these several times.
