Post a few...

In this world there is always danger for those who are afraid of it.
-George Bernard Shaw

It's not that the Irish are cynical. It's rather that they have a wonderful lack of respect for everything and everybody
-Brendan Behan

Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration.
-Frank Hebert

It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.
-Jiddu Krishnamurti

Wealth often takes away chances from men as well as poverty. There is none to tell the rich to go on striving, for a rich man makes the law that hallows and hollows his own life.
-Sean O'Casey

If you want to be a man at night, you've got to be a man in the morning...
-James Quinlan

Qui tacet, consentire videtur

A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing. - George Bernard Shaw

I've always liked Thomas Jefferson's quotes:

"I'm a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it."

"Never spend your money before you have it."

"We confide in our strength, without boasting of it; we respect that of others, without fearing it."

I recently discovered Lao Tzu, he's got some good ones too:

"People are difficult to govern because they have too much knowledge."

"The more laws and order are made prominent,
The more thieves and robbers there will be."

"When armies are mobilized and issues are joined,
The man who is sorry over the fact will win."

HL Mencken:

"The believing mind is externally impervious to evidence. The most
that can be accomplished with it is to induce it to substitute one
delusion for another. It rejects all overt evidence as wicked..."

"The worst government is the most moral. One composed of cynics
is often very tolerant and humane. But when fanatics are on top there
is no limit to oppression."

"The kind of man who wants the government to adopt and enforce
his ideas is always the kind of man whose ideas are idiotic."

"Democracy is the theory that the common people know what
they want and deserve to get it good and hard."

I was searching for who said this and I came up with one single topic ...

It was an old Battlevortex thread about time travel or something but anyway it was the quote I was using at the time which still applies today

"You are who you are, when no one is around"--Rock (probably not)

It is the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship ... Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger.

-- Hermann Goering (April 18, 1946 ... The Nuremberg Trials)

"The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin. When all is orderly, he does not forget that disorder may come. Thus his person is not endangered, and his States and all their clans are preserved."

"Recommend to your children virtue; that alone can make them happy, not gold."
-Ludwig Van Beethoven

"Music is the one force in this world which comprehends mankind, but which mankind cannot comprehend."
-Ludwig Van Beethoven

Hitler: "The size of the lie is a definite factor in causing it to be believed."

Hitler: "What good fortune for governments that the people do not think."

Hitler: "Who says I am not under the special protection of God?"

Bush: "I believe God wants me to be president."

Hitler: "I would like to thank Providence and the Almighty for choosing me of all people to be allowed to wage this battle for Germany."

Bush: (from A Charge to Keep): The world seeks Americaxs leadership, looks for leadership from a country whose values are freedom and justice and equality. Ours should not be the paternalistic leadership of an arrogant big brother, but the inviting and welcoming leadership of a great & noble nation. We have a collective responsibility as citizens of the greatest & freest nation in the world. America must not retreat within its borders. Our greatest export is freedom, and we have a moral obligation to champion it throughout the world.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn: "If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?"

"Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails."

Paul - in his letter to the Corinthians
