Its like the modern day push for free range animals and factory farming bias. Ya we all have seen the videos, but if you think about it, we care more about animals in this country than human beings.

Re: Medical care rant

The novel is a work of fiction, but the depiction of the meat packing industry was not. The only website I see saying that it was exaggerated is a Libertarian website (and The Blaze, which I think is an alt right site?), the Libertarian site oddly takes the word of a government agency over a private citizen. Which I thought ..

“The Jungle” is a pure work of fiction. It has absolutely no basis in reality. A 1906 report by the Bureau of Animal Industry refuted Sinclair’s severest allegations, characterizing them as “intentionally misleading and false,” “willful and deliberate misrepresentations of fact,” and “utter absurdity.” Quoting Mr. Crumpacker on Sinclair’s allegations of diseased meats, “the chief inspector said there was not a single animal that went into the slaughterhouses that was not inspected before it went on foot; and if one was diseased, had a lumpy jaw, or appeared to be out of condition, he was separated, and then a skilled veterinarian made a thorough examination of that animal after the rest had been passed; and then they had inspection on the inside.”
https://www.libertariannews.org/2012...rs-the-jungle/

Every other site I've read seems to confirm what Sinclair exposed in his novel. That the meat packing industry at that time in the U.S. was horrible in so many ways.

The concerns about factory farming for me are not just about the treatment of the animals - but it is a concern because who wants to eat a cow who has spent it's whole life standing knee deep in shit? Who wants to eat a pack of hamburger meat that came from 10 different cows. But also, the effect it's had on farming in America in general, as you said before, the "family farm" is not our main way of farming like it was 50-70 years ago - when meat was more expensive and we ate less of it for that reason. It's also an environmental disaster waiting to happen. Have you seen photos of the "ponds" at these CAFOs?

Also free-range is a fancy label and often times it means nothing more than the animal was outside in a 10x10 paddock, not like they're grazing on hillsides, roaming acres of open land.

Makes no sense, when money is power and tends by the nature of capitalism to concentrate in the hands of a few.

This is nonsense. I would say monarchs, despots, dictators, czars, and whatever supreme leader type of government you have had in the past, was far more efficient at concentrating wealth in the hands of the few.

Just another trope.

THAT GUY IS TOO RICH!

Solution:

MAKE EVERYONE POOR!

Correct sir. Here is a cookie, it tastes like shit, has unknown things in it, but it was made by your government with love. Now eat up comrade.

I am indifferent to wealth. Wealth doesn't make a person good or bad, just makes them wealthy.

I don't see a problem in being rich. I do see a problem in somebody taking from another person just because they are rich, IE taxes, robbery etc.

When I hear somebody use the phrase "their fair share" that is code for tax the shit out of the rich.

Taxation is theft.

Now that isn't to say I haven't met rich assholes in my day, but I have also met just as many poor assholes.

Say I win the megamillions jackpot, do instantly become a bad person?

ya ya ya quiet down peanut gallery.
