Phish shows were awesome.
I didn't make the Friday night show; came down late Friday night and went to the Saturday and Sunday shows.
Okay, Saturday night. So, I was having so much fun. We were on the floor (very packed) but it damn fun dancing with Mocker, blazing, drinking beer. After the first set; I'm hot. I mean, like I'm burning up with fever hot. We go outside and I start to feel better. Cool, fresh air. I feel refreshed. We head back in and the 2nd set starts. Everyone is lighting up and dancing again. Good times. Only... I immediately feel too hot again. Like way too hot. I'm sweating profusely. We’re too packed on the floor. There’s hardly room to dance. My face is inches from the guys’ back in front of me. I lean over and tell Mocker, "I need to go outside... I'm too hot". I don't think I made it more than a few steps when I demanded I needed to sit... ON THE FLOOR, right there, right now. He's pulling me, "No baby… not here… come on, I'll take you outside". I try to follow. I faint. I mean, dead faint. When I finally come to, we're off the floor and in the entrance area. Mocker is trying to get me out of doors. Only I'm dead weight and I'm waking up… and again, I go down on the floor. Soon the medical guys are over, putting me in a wheelchair. One of them remarks, "Wow! I can feel the heat coming off her!" They put me on a little bed with some ice packs and kept taking my blood pressure asking me if I was on drugs and such. I missed the last part of the show because I'm in the medical tent trying to recover from heat exhaustion. They finally let me up when my blood pressure stabilized (it was low, so every time I tried to sit up, I felt lightheaded). That said; this experience did not deter me from wanting to attend the Sunday show. It was really an awesome experience... the music, the lights, the energy flowing through the crowd. Even with the heat exhaustion. I still had a fantastic time and I wanted to go to the Sunday show. Pikkle never called to claim the extra ticket, so Mocker gave it to me. Sunday night was awesome. We actually got seats and it was so much cooler up there than it was down on the floor. The section we were sitting in was all cool party peoples The whole section was partying and dancing; but I didn’t have to deal with all the body heat that suffocated me on the floor the night before. A much better experience as far as that went. Before seeing these shows, I wasn't that big of a fan. Mocker plays Phish a lot and I got to know a lot of songs. I didn't really come to appreciate until seeing the live performances though. OMG they jam. I can't see myself becoming like a Phish head type. I've never been one to follow bands like that, but I will definitely go to another show ![]()

Glad you guys had a good time. Sorry about the heat exhaustion, though.

Overheating at a concert can be pretty scary - I ended up with a 102 degree fever at a Primus concert one New Year's Eve. I didn't realize it was serious until I got outside and couldn't cool down. Not a fun experience overall, but Primus while semi-delirious is pretty cool.
Also, looks like they've released free MP3s of last weekend's show. If you want FLAC or CDs you can buy them. |

I saw someone selling nitrous by the "balloon". Kinda weird, heh. On Sunday night, there were people behind us smoking either DMT or crack. I'm not sure which, but the odor was chemical. I had to hold my breath because I didn't want to breathe it in ![]() I met some nice hippie types in line on Sunday. They were passing a bowl around and I stupidly took a hit without even thinking (there were cops very close by). Lucky I wasn't among the 200 arrests. ![]()

There were actually a lot more than 14,000 people there. The coliseum holds 14,000, but a lot of people only had tickets to 1 or 2 of the 3 shows, and a lot of others showed up with no tickets at all. I've seen articles saying there were as many as 70,000 fans in Hampton for the weekend, but I'd say it was closer to 30-40k.
With that many people, 200 arrests breaks down to less than 1% of the crowd. It's a shame that most media outlets picked up on this fractional percentage getting busted for drugs instead of running stories about the positive stuff - like the fact that all these Phish fans pumped millions of dollars into the local economy, or that THE GREATEST BAND ON THE WHOLE FREAKING PLANET IS BACK. Each show had nearly 4 hours of music instead of the 2.5 hours that they normally do. I saw 50+ Phish shows between 1993 and 2003 and these three Hampton shows were the best I'd seen from these guys since New Year's Eve 1998/1999. They played 85 songs over the course of the three shows. One thing Alora forgot to mention about the heat exhaustion ordeal... She lost her sandals while we were dragging her out of the crowd, and I was worried about how we'd get her out to the car because the whole area outside the coliseum was littered with broken beer bottles. Fortunately, a noble hero (who just happens to go by the name of Mocker) was able to fight his way through the crowd to retrieve both sandals.

that was both noble and heroic. I thought for sure you'd never find them

Awww, hehe. Well, that would have been difficult. It was quite a distance to the car and I would have struggled to be let down the whole way. You know how your little ones do when they want down? Twisting and squiggling their little toddler bodies. Mom/Dad struggling to keep them from wiggling out. That kind of struggling ![]()
